Breathing to thrive, not just survive

I help people stay in control in those moments of fear, anxiety, anger, feeling out of control, where emotions take over and rob you of your hearing, your ability to think calmly and say the correct things in the situation. In these situations, when you’re out of control of your emotions, I teach you how to get in control of what you can control - YOU.

Whether you’re an employee staring at an email that sends your heart racing, a manager navigating a tough conversation, a pilot dealing with a sudden stressor in the cockpit, or a nervous flyer gripping the seat before take-off, the body’s stress response takes over and zaps your performance in seconds.

Through simple, science based breathing and body resets, I give people the ability to instantly stop the stress, so that you can respond rather than react, and keep going with focus and confidence. My work, grounded in psychology gives individuals facing performance stressors, corporate teams and leaders and aviation workers practical tools to stay composed when it matters most.

You know the saying about the swan… calm and graceful on the surface, paddling like mad underneath?

For years, that was me.

I was the person who always prepared obsessively. I knew my stuff.

But the night before a simulator test I’d be sleepless, mind racing, so nervous about being examined.

Whenever I had to speak in front of people, I’d stand up to speak and I knew what I needed to say but it would be really hard to get my words out, and I’d be repetitive, cringing inside.

When I had hard conversations with people I loved, I’d get so worked up that anything would come out my mouth. Then I was full of regret and I’d replay conversations for days, picking apart every word, wondering why I’d said what I said as I didn’t mean it.

I’ll never forget the first aptitude test I did for a flying scholarship, years before I actually became a pilot. I made one small mistake in the first two minutes, and my mind took over and told me I’d failed even though I hadn’t. It was too late though as I couldn’t recover, and I failed.

I’d lost control of myself.

Fast-forward ten years: the nerves before a simulator check are gone.

I go into interviews calm and answer clearly.

I can listen fully in a difficult conversation instead of reacting on impulse.

The difference isn’t that I prepare more.

It’s that I finally learned to control my mind, by first controlling my breath.

It sounds simple, but most of us aren’t doing it.

I spent years thinking that this was just me, that it was how I was. I was wrong.

The truth is, if you’re not in control of your breath, you’re not in control of your mind.

When you’re stressed and when the pressure’s on, in meetings, presentations, conversations, tests, or moments of fear your mind is  threatened and it’s trying to protect you.

So it will do anything to get you away from the situation.

Your own body’s reaction hijack’s your performance. It takes your tongue. It blocks your memory.

That’s why I teach practical, science based breathing and body resets, so that what’s calm on the surface is also truly calm underneath.

If you are…

Working in a high pressure job
My breathwork can help you stay sharp even when your inbox explodes or deadlines move.
That shaky, adrenaline-surge feeling? It’s replaced by a calm, clear head so you can think straight and make good decisions.

A leader or manager
You know your stuff but you need something more to help you lead your team with ease. I can show you how to navigate tense conversations when emotions are high. And create a more cohesive team that work better together and achieve bigger goals.

Dealing with client meetings and high pressure presentations
I can help you calm the voice that tells you you’re not good enough, that takes your words from you making you forget what you were going to say. When you’re in control of your breathing, you’ll be more confident in meetings and presentations and your message and voice will be heard.

In an aviation career
I give crew and pilots tools to get in control of tough situations, stay composed under pressure and recover quickly from in flight stress so they can focus on safety and performance.

For fearful flyers
I can help you travel with more ease so that you’re not checking the weather, aircraft history, watching aircrash investigation full of worries, panic and racing heart, thinking the worst is going to happen. With my breathing you will be able to get control of yourself and walk on board an aircraft confidently and fly without the panic you have currently.
